Our first child Geoffrey John was born early in September 1959, a short time after we had climbed many steps to Sydney Harbour Bridges Pylon Lookout. A couple of days later Josie cooked dinner and then started getting labor pains and I took her to Parramatta Hospital's reception desk. I was told to leave Josie with them and to go home and phone in the morning. Next morning I phoned the hospital and was told I was the father of a boy. When I went to the hospital I saw Josie in her room, but could only look through a babies ward window to see my new son with other babies. The first time I nursed my child was when I was taking him home!
