Josie and I left baby Geoff in the care of her parents and drove off with my best mate John and wife Iris,Josie's sister Janice and friend Joe in our Vanguard panel van(with a double mattress in the back) and Joe's Sigma sedan (with seats that folded down to make a bed) from Sydney to the Snowy Mountains to explore the newly completed Hydro Electric Scheme over Easter weekend. It rained all night as we drove down the single-lane Hume Highway and early on Easter Friday we arrived at my grandmother Alice's home in Bungendore for breakfast and a warm up. Then to Jindabyne (later covered by Lake Jindabyne) where we planned to camp for the night, but I had left the tent at home! Not popular John, especially with the 3 girls.
Over the next 2 days we explored the Snowy Scheme and drove the narrow winding gravel road to the top of Mt Kosciusko where the winds were howling and we were very, very cold! We drove back home on Easter Monday to our baby...it was a real experience many years ago.
