30 May 1937
When my wife Josie Behrens was seven-weeks old she was baptised at St Clements Church, Marrickville, and her families drove to a celebration picnic. On arrival her father Carl posed Josie with her mother Doris on the bonnet of his 1928 Chevrolet sedan, and her grandfather John Bastock stood leaning on the side door. Her grandmother Anne remained seated in the back seat. As the families lived at Marrickville, it is thought the picnic was held somewhere along Botany Bay. Note the untied rope on the front bumper bar of the car-it was common at the time to tie a canvas water bag there to keep it cool, and to use it later to make tea at the picnic. The photograph is exceptionally sharp and perfectly composed by Josie's father......
